DIY Manjerico Plant

Both fun and beautiful,  the manjerico tradition happens during the annual Festa de São João ( festival of St. John) in Porto, Portugal.  The manjerico tradition stems from pagan origins in which it was used as a symbol of giving thanks for bounty and fertility.  But during  Festa de São João,  the little potted plants of sprouted basil , along a paper-mache flower and a love note, are offered as a sweet symbol of love.
